Hyatt Hotels Corporation and RLH Properties have disclosed their plan to rebrand and transform the Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya into Alila Mayakoba, marking Alila’s debut in Latin America and the Caribbean. The existing resort will cease operations on March 2, 2025, and will reopen later in the year under the Alila brand.
Alila is recognized for its transformative travel experiences, which foster a deeper connection between guests and the locale, culture, and community. The refreshed resort will emphasize sustainability and well-being, with renovations aimed at minimizing environmental impact while maximizing guest benefit.
The 148-acre resort, set amidst a mangrove that supports local wildlife and biodiversity, will adopt an eco-friendly renovation approach using locally sourced and reclaimed materials. Once open, it will operate under strict sustainability principles.
Alila Mayakoba will offer guests an immersive connection with the local environment and culture. The resort celebrates the unique location of Mayakoba, its distinctive water canals and ancient Mayan reverence for nature. The resort design aligns with Alila’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Pete Sears, Group President, Americas, Hyatt, emphasized the transformation will inspire guests and incorporate local traditions into the guest experience. As the first Alila-branded hotel in the region, it will introduce a new level of luxury, sustainability, and impactful well-being.
Luis Duran, CEO of RLH Properties, underscored the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility as a key aspect of its long-term strategy. He noted that Alila Mayakoba will reflect the company’s deep respect for the community and allow guests to connect more deeply with the protected ecosystems.
As part of the transition, the property will reduce its guestrooms and increase the suite count to 40% of the total inventory, offering wellness-focused accommodations. The property will also feature indoor and outdoor wellness spaces, a renovated spa with outdoor communal hydrotherapy amenities, extensive gardens, and a new Temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath.
Furthermore, Alila Mayakoba will host locally inspired food and beverage offerings, including a curated coffee shop, an organic garden restaurant, two signature restaurants, a new lobby lounge, a beach-front restaurant, and a new beach club. The hotel will also offer refreshed indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces.
Guests and World of Hyatt members with existing reservations at Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya for stays after March 2, 2025 can relocate to other Hyatt properties or another hotel within the Mayakoba complex or cancel their stay without penalty.
