Netflix UK is set to become the exclusive streaming home for one of the most talked-about British dramas of the past year. We have learned that Kirk Jones’ critically acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated biopic I Swear is officially scheduled to make its SVOD debut next month, following a highly successful theatrical run in the UK. The United States will follow suit in late 2026.

The film’s arrival on Netflix UK comes as part of the streamer’s ongoing “first-window” output deal with StudioCanal , which is in operation in the UK. Under this partnership, major theatrical releases from the distributor land on Netflix approximately six to nine months after their cinema debut.

We can confirm that I Swear will be available to stream on Netflix UK starting Tuesday, March 10th, 2026. It follows the initial premiere at TIFF with its UK theatrical release beginning in October.

For those in the United States and other international territories, the wait will be a bit longer. Sony Pictures Classics, which acquired the film following its standout premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, has set a US theatrical release date for April 24th, 2026.

Under the current Sony-Netflix output deal, I Swear is expected to join the Netflix US library in late 2026, likely in November or December, following its theatrical and VOD windows.

What is I Swear about?

Directed by Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee), I Swear tells the powerful true story of John Davidson, a Scottish man who became a national figure in the UK after the 1989 documentary John’s Not Mad.

The film follows John’s life as he navigates the severe challenges of Tourette’s syndrome at a time when the condition was widely misunderstood. It is a story of resilience, charting his journey from social ostracization to becoming a leading campaigner and educator. Rather than focusing solely on the condition, the film is a deeply humane portrait of a man finding his voice and his place in a world that wasn’t built for him.

With a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, I Swear has been hailed by critics as one of the best British films of the decade. It managed to earn significant awards buzz at BAFTA, primarily for Robert Aramayo’s transformative performance, which many have called “flawless” and “deeply empathetic.”
