Dick Van Dyke has always been quite the showman. One of the most iconic actors maybe ever, Van Dyke, 99, shared a special moment with his Mary Poppins Returns (2018) co-stars back when the cast was filming. According to Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt, Van Dyke had the whole cast in tears.

“I will never forget Dick Van Dyke leaping onto the desk tap dancing,” Blunt told People magazine in an article published on Sept. 30. “And Rob Marshall [director] had said that Lin-Manuel [Miranda] and I should help him up.”

“He had to go onto the chair and onto the desk, and we were there to help him up, and he literally pushed our hands away, and was up there, and it made everyone cry,” the actress continued, adding that even actor Colin Firth “who refuses to show emotion, ever” was “weeping.”

Indeed, the actor still very much has that sparkle, which hasn’t gone away as he’s aged — it hasn’t even waned. On Sept. 28, a video of Van Dyke singing happy birthday to his wife, Arlene Silver, 54, was posted on Instagram.

The delightful video was taken at Aviator Nation Dreamland in Malibu on Sept. 21, and reminded many fans just how charismatic Van Dyke is. The comments section quickly filled up with love from fans across the globe, some calling the Mary Poppins actor a “national treasure” and others referring to him as “incredible.”

Van Dyke will celebrate his 100th birthday in December 2025.
