Iconic Entertainer, 77, Charms Fans With 'Utterly Marvelous' Charity Event

11 August 20252 Mins Read

Legendary entertainer Bernadette Peters, 77, joined another beloved star, Dame Elaine Paige, for a wonderful charity event over the weekend.

Peters, who starred in films such as The Jerk and Pennies From Heaven, won two Tony Awards thanks to her outstanding Broadway performances over the years. More recently, she worked alongside Paige to bring “West End Woofs (and Meows)” to London.

As the website for the event notes, the ticketed event is “a live dog and cat adoption event, working with participating shelters and rescue groups to benefit their charitable work.” The event took place at St. Paul’s Church in the Covent Garden on August 9.

Paige and Peters first co-hosted a virtual version of the event in 2020. The show went live in person in 2023, and the entertainers returned this year to host it again.

Peters is a co-founder of Broadway Barks, an organization that has been doing similar events for years in New York City.

On August 11, Peters posted a note of gratitude on her Instagram page after the event. “Thank you to my pal Elaine Paige for her beautiful heart to bring WEST END WOOFS to the UK,” the caption read.

Peters also posted a group photo in a separate Instagram post and thanked “all the beautiful people who participated in WEST END WOOFS!!! Forever grateful.”

Paige, who originated the role of Eva Peron in the show Evita and has starred in many additional theater hits, posted about the event on her Instagram page as well. The women performed outdoors on the steps of the building for those gathered around.

In another post she gushed over Peters. “Haha! @officialbernadettepeters messing (and failing) about at the start of @westendwoofsuk this morning! She is such fun! Wish we weren’t separated by an ocean!”

Fans of both Peters and Paige adored the updates from the event.

“Two of the greatest musical theatre actors ever,” one person raved on Paige’s post.

A comment on Peters’ Instagram post read, “How utterly marvelous!!”

Another fan gushed, “You’re amazing, Bernadette! I love how you took this across the pond!”

“You are the best with the greatest heart,” someone else added.
