Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed definitive agreements to acquire a 51% stake in Brij Hospitality, the owner of the Brij Hotels brand, expanding its presence in India’s boutique leisure segment.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has entered into definitive agreements to acquire a controlling 51% stake in Brij Hospitality, which owns and operates the Brij Hotels brand. The transaction will give IHCL ownership of the Brij brand and is intended to support the development of the boutique leisure hotel segment in India.

Brij Hotels currently operates a portfolio of 22 hotels across various locations in India, with 11 additional properties in the pipeline. The brand’s properties are located in destinations including Jaipur, Varanasi, Ranthambore, the northern hills, the northeast region, and Goa. The acquisition will add these locations to IHCL’s portfolio, which now comprises 610 hotels, including 253 in the pipeline.

The agreement marks a shift from IHCL’s previous marketing and distribution partnership with Brij Hotels to a majority shareholding. IHCL’s strategic objective is to consolidate its position in India’s leisure tourism sector, particularly in cultural, spiritual, and wildlife destinations.

The transaction is part of IHCL’s broader expansion strategy, which aims to reach 700 hotels under its Accelerate 2030 plan. The addition of Brij Hotels is expected to diversify IHCL’s portfolio by increasing its presence in boutique and experiential leisure segments.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions. No financial terms were disclosed. The founding promoters of Brij Hospitality will continue to collaborate with IHCL following the transaction.

IHCL’s expanded portfolio now includes properties in both established and emerging leisure destinations, following the integration of Brij Hotels. The move is intended to address growing demand in India’s hospitality sector, driven by increased consumer spending and interest in experiential travel.

No timeline for completing the acquisition has been specified. Further details regarding integration and operational plans were not disclosed.
