IHG Hotels & Resorts has marked a major milestone in India with the opening of Crowne Plaza Lucknow, its 50th operational hotel in the country. The opening demonstrates IHG’s commitment to the Indian market, supported by strong domestic demand and a growing consumer preference for hospitality services.
Located on the Lucknow-Sultanpur Road with seamless access to Shahid Path, the new IT hub, and the cricket stadium, Crowne Plaza Lucknow provides an enhanced stay experience for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel features 110 rooms, expansive meeting and event spaces spanning 40,000 sq. ft, an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a club lounge, a gymnasium, and an outdoor pool.
In 2024, the company signed 18 new hotels across its brand portfolio. Nearly 30% of the signings were in premium and luxury segments in India. With almost 70 hotels in the current pipeline, IHG aims to more than double its portfolio in India over the next five years, tapping into the country’s fast-growing travel demand and rising domestic tourism. The current pipeline has a significant mix of luxury and premium hotels with five InterContinental hotels, ten Crowne Plaza hotels, and five voco hotels slated to open in the next 2-5 years.
The opening of Crowne Plaza Lucknow aligns with Crowne Plaza’s recent study, which highlighted a shift in traveler preferences towards integrating work and leisure. The study identified four emerging trends: Improve and Grow, Mind-Body Equity, The New Personal Travel Economy, and Intentional Togetherness. Notably, the research revealed that 33% of Indian travelers have experienced blended travel, indicating India’s leading role in this evolving travel landscape.
IHG currently operates 50 hotels across five brands in India, including Six Senses, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Resort and Holiday Inn Express, and has a strong pipeline of close to 70 hotels set to open in the next 2-3 years.
