• IHG Plans to Expand India Portfolio to Over 400 Hotels in Five Years

IHG Hotels & Resorts aims to increase its presence in India to over 400 open and in-development hotels within five years, following record signings in 2025 and the introduction of new brands to the market.

IHG Hotels & Resorts reported on January 16, 2026, that it plans to expand its India portfolio to more than 400 open and pipeline hotels within the next five years. The company currently has more than 50 open hotels and 80 in development, totaling close to 12,000 rooms.

IHG stated that India delivered a third consecutive year of record signings in 2025. The company’s current portfolio in India includes hotels across eight brands: Six Senses, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Garner, and Staybridge Suites. These brands cover luxury, premium, and midscale segments.

In 2025, IHG introduced its new mainstream brand, Garner, to the Indian market. Signings for Garner during the year included properties in Etawah (Uttar Pradesh) and Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir), with additional hotels in Kutch and Bhiwadi added to the pipeline. The company also announced that it will debut its Vignette Collection brand in India in early 2026.

Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express represent more than 70% of IHG’s operating hotels in India and account for the majority of its hotels currently in development. Holiday Inn Express ranked first for signings in its industry category in the first three quarters of 2025.

IHG’s premium portfolio in India continues to expand, with Crowne Plaza representing about 25% of the company’s hotels in development in the region. The opening of Crowne Plaza Lucknow in May 2025 marked IHG’s 50th open hotel in India. The voco brand has also been introduced in India, with signings in Srinagar, Goa, Gurugram, Mumbai, Amritsar, and the first voco opening in Jim Corbett National Park.

The company’s luxury and lifestyle brands are increasing their share of the India pipeline. The InterContinental brand is expanding in cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, as well as resort destinations including Mahabalipuram, Kasauli, and Kodaikanal. Six Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan opened in 2021, and Six Senses Vana was added in 2023.

As of January 2026, IHG operates 51 hotels across six brands in India and has a pipeline of 80 hotels scheduled to open in the next three to five years. The company’s expansion strategy in India focuses on conversion opportunities and maintains a balanced presence across mainstream, premium, and luxury segments.
