IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement to open a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Gwalior, India, by early 2029.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a management agreement with Dutta Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. for the development of a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. This project marks the introduction of the Holiday Inn Express brand to the city, with the hotel scheduled to open in early 2029.

The new hotel will be located on Jhansi Road, a significant thoroughfare in Gwalior. It will feature 140 rooms, a dining facility, event space, a meeting room, and a fitness center. The development is part of IHG’s strategy to expand its presence in secondary markets across India, which are considered to have high growth potential.

Gwalior, known as the “City of Forts,” is a city with a rich historical background and is experiencing rapid development in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-industries, and infrastructure. The expansion of Gwalior Airport and the city’s proximity to historical and leisure destinations, such as Orchha, Datia, and Kuno National Park, contribute to its appeal for both corporate and leisure travelers.

The Gwalior property will incorporate the brand’s Generation 5 design, which includes modern amenities and flexible workspaces.

In India, there are currently 17 operating Holiday Inn Express hotels, with an additional 21 in the pipeline.

This development is part of IHG’s broader strategy to increase its footprint in India, where it currently operates 51 hotels across six brands. The company has a pipeline of 72 hotels expected to open in the next three to five years.
