Digital travel platform Agoda reveals five key travel habits of Asian Gen Z, highlighting their dependence on digital platforms for travel inspiration, preference for spontaneity and shared experiences, cost-consciousness, and a universal love for travel.
Digital travel platform Agoda has unveiled the top five travel trends exhibited by Asian Gen Z, indicating a significant shift in travel behaviors and preferences in the region.
Social media platforms, particularly TikTok (20%) and Instagram (14%), have emerged as the primary sources of travel inspiration for Gen Z, outstripping traditional word-of-mouth recommendations (17%). This trend showcases the growing influence of digital platforms in shaping Gen Z’s travel choices.
Agoda’s survey further revealed Gen Z’s spontaneity in travel planning, with 20% booking flights less than a week in advance. This preference for last-minute travel arrangements extends to accommodation bookings, with one in four Gen Z travelers making eleventh-hour bookings.
The survey also highlighted a preference for shared travel experiences, with 38% of Gen Z preferring to travel with a partner. This inclination towards shared experiences reflects a generational shift in travel dynamics, with Millennials prioritizing family trips.
Regarding travel spending, Gen Z and Millennials display similar habits, preferring to keep accommodation costs under USD 50 per person per night. However, a higher percentage of Gen Z (56%) is inclined to adhere to this budget than Millennials (44%).
Despite these differences, the survey underscores a universal love for travel, with nearly half of Gen Z and Millennials planning to embark on 1-3 trips this year.
Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President, Supply at Agoda, affirmed Gen Z’s unique approach to travel, saying, “Gen Z is redefining travel with their digital-first approach and spontaneous spirit. At Agoda, we’re thrilled to support their adventures with diverse options and the best deals in accommodations, flights and activities.”
