A recent report from Trip.com Group, “Momentum 2025: Travel’s Next Big Trends,” uncovers the future of travel, spotlighting technology-driven personalization, niche travel experiences, and immersive travel journeys. This forward-looking report is informed by insights from over 6,000 travelers across six Asia-Pacific markets.

The report outlines several key trends, starting with experiential dining. Culinary tourism is on the rise, with the report showing that 60% of Trip.com users have been searching for food-related content since early 2024. Food festivals, hotel dining, and street food tours are becoming top culinary experiences.

Another trend identified is the influence of media content on travel decisions. The study reveals that 70% of travelers plan trips inspired by what they’ve seen on screen. In Malaysia, a staggering 91% of travelers credit media for shaping their travel plans.

Cruise tourism is also projected to see significant growth in 2025, driven by scenic sea views, fresh ocean air, and an array of onboard experiences. According to the report, travelers value onboard dining, all-inclusive packages, and live shows and entertainment.

Entertainment-driven travel is set to boom, with concerts and sports events becoming major travel motivators in 2025. Nearly two-thirds (66%) of travelers now plan to organize trips around live events.

Another trend is the influence of social media on travel decisions. Viral travel content on platforms like TikTok has influenced 45% of travelers’ decisions. Trip.com’s social-sharing Trip Moments travel platform is expected to play a key role in fostering this community-driven exploration.

The report also identifies several emerging micro-trends for 2025. These include dark sky stargazing, underwater hotel stays, and the use of AI in travel innovation. AI-powered tools are predicted to revolutionize travel planning by offering hyper-personalized experiences.

The report concludes that the rise of AI-powered personalisation and sustainable travel will shape the industry’s next phase. Travelers are increasingly prioritizing journeys that reflect their values, including cultural preservation and environmental protection.
