• International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2025 to Focus on Sustainability and Inclusion in Tourism

The 45th edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR), organized by IFEMA MADRID, will take place from January 22 to 26, 2025. The event will focus on promoting sustainable and responsible tourism. The event comes as the tourism industry is witnessing a surge in international tourists, who stood at 790 million in the first seven months of 2024. According to UN Tourism statistics, these tourists generated a global economic impact of around USD 3.4 trillion.

The previous edition of FITUR saw more than 250,000 attendees and the participation of 9,000 companies from 152 different countries. The 2025 event will continue the fair’s tradition of serving as a platform for knowledge and business exchange within the global tourism industry. A central theme for this edition will be sustainability, with FITUR aiming to showcase and encourage responsible practices that contribute to robust economic growth.

Two major projects showcased at the fair will be the FITURNEXT Observatory and FITUR 4all. The former is an initiative dedicated to promoting best practices in the tourism industry. In the past six editions, the FITURNEXT Observatory has identified and analyzed initiatives to address industry challenges. The 2025 Challenge focused on sustainable food management in tourism. After researching nearly 300 proposals, the winning initiatives were Sustainable Gastronomic Routes of Extremadura (Spain), Hurtigruten Cruises (Norway), and Too Good To Go (Denmark).

FITUR 4all, on the other hand, is a project that aims to bring people with accessibility needs closer to tourist destinations and services. For the second consecutive year, this initiative seeks to promote inclusive tourism. As part of the project, a Guide to Best Practices in Accessibility will be produced in 2025 to encourage the development and promotion of inclusive tourism worldwide.

FITUR 2025 also intends to stimulate professionals’ pride in contributing to an industry that has a positive impact on economic and social development. The event emphasizes that the tourism sector is not just about boosting economies but also about creating avenues for cultural exchange and global cooperation.

The theme for FITUR 2025 is “Proud. We are tourism,” which resonates with the fair’s objective of transforming the tourism industry into a more responsible sector that brings lasting value to the planet and its people.
