Jalen Hurts‘ uncomfortable red carpet moment is turning heads at the TIME100 Gala.

The awkward encounter with the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, 26, went viral online on April 24 after he was asked whether he plans to join his teammates at the upcoming White House visit after their 2025 Super Bowl win.

In the video posted to TikTok, Hurts looked away from the camera uncomfortably and did not answer the question and seemingly walked away after the reporter responded “thank you so much.”

Every year, it’s typically customary for the Super Bowl winners to visit the White House and meet with the president as part of the team’s victory tour. Back in 2018 when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, the team declined the White House visit during President Donald Trump’s first term and were later uninvited shortly after.

In a statement after President Trump revoked the invitation, Philadelphia mayor at the time Jim Kenney called Trump a “fragile egomaniac” and said “The Eagles call the birthplace of our democracy home, so it’s no surprise that this team embodies everything that makes our country and our city great.”

“I’m equally proud of the Eagles’ activism off the field,” Mayor Kenny continued in his statement. “These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation — a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.”

While there was speculation that the team would decline the invitation once again, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on March 10 that the team formerly accepted the invitation. “We sent the invite and they enthusiastically accepted,” a White House spokesperson told the outlet.

ESPN later reported that the visit would take place on April 28.
