Jasper’s new glacial plunge is elevating wellness in the Alberta Rockies

2 December 20253 Mins Read

Have you tried the cold plunging fad that’s taken over the internet? No, it didn’t start with the 2014 ice bucket challenge — thermotherapy has been used for wellness rituals by countries around the world for thousands of years, and now Alberta is finally catching up.

It makes a lot of sense, as we have some of the most pristine mountain views and natural waters around due to our northern location and proximity to the Rocky Mountains. There’s a lot of crossover between Nordic hydrotherapy rituals and life in Alberta, especially in the way we deal with the long, harsh and cold winters.

The craze has taken our province by storm, with the recent arrival of Everwild, Canmore’s latest Nordic spa experience and the opening of Leela Thermal House, Calgary’s first thermal house with private saunas, in October 2025.

Now, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is inviting you to step into a redefined winter wellness experience. The new Glacial Plunge & Sauna Journey is an immersive, guided experience set against the breathtaking shores of Lac Beauvert.

Albertans are invited to rediscover Jasper’s wild beauty and the restorative power of thermal therapy beneath the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, complete with local aromatics and centuries-old rituals.

Invigorating and serene

For thousands of years, Nordic cultures have used temperature immersion as a natural, age-old wellness remedy. Albertans are invited to activate the benefits of this experience in Jasper National Park, set against the rugged backdrop of the iconic Rocky Mountains.

The new Glacial Plunge & Sauna Journey at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is an immersive, guided experience that invites you to reap the therapeutic benefits of dipping into the stunning Lac Beauvert.

“Jasper’s landscape is both our inspiration and our gift to guests,” said Rabih El Maleh, Director of Well-Being at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, in a press release. “Through this new experience, we invite everyone to slow down, reconnect with nature and themselves – and leave not only restored, but genuinely transformed by the timeless magic of the Canadian Rockies.”

You’ll discover the restorative power of thermal therapy with grounding breathwork sessions that lead guests into the cold plunge — a ritual that’s long been celebrated for sharpening focus and revitalizing the body and mind. Stepping from the sauna’s embrace onto the lakeside sundeck, guests are gently guided to dip into Lac Beauvert’s crystalline waters.

Later, wind down with lavender cooling cloths and a soothing Neroli facial mist. Afterwards, a fireside gathering and tea ceremony help nurture both recovery and community.

Designed for those seeking transformation and a memorable mountain escape, the experience is an invitation to reconnect, both with nature and one’s inner self.

Get back to your best self at this glacial plunge and spa experience. Your alpine journey awaits.
