As Hoda Kotb’s departure from the Today show fast approaches, her co-host Jenna Bush Hager is reminiscing on some of the most memorable things that have happened while they’ve worked together.
On the Nov. 19 episode of the morning show, she opened up about bursting into tears just before meeting an iconic singer, and it all had to do with Kotb.

Bush Hager shared that she was on her way to do an interview with Cher when a call from Kotb derailed her entirely.
“I interviewed her on, it was the first week of our show. Hoda and I had done our show for a week. It was Sunday. It was at her Broadway show and I was early, so I went and got a Starbucks,” she began.
“And when I was in the Starbucks, Hoda FaceTimed me. And she said, ‘I want you to meet baby Hope.’ And I got to meet her baby. And then I had to go back and interview Cher. I was bawling crying. I also was like, ‘What does this mean for our show?,” Bush Hager continued.

The fourth hour of the Today show will get a major shakeup after Kotb departs in early 2025. Until a permanent successor is hired, it will feature a rotating cast of co-hosts alongside Bush Hager, with the segment being called “Jenna & Friends.”
Current third hour co-host Craig Melvin will take over as Kotb’s successor on the program.
