Jimmy Fallon fueled jokes at his own expense online with his choice of fashion accessory while attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The 50-year-old late night host was seen holding a transparent umbrella at the 98th annual celebration, which he arrived at wearing a dressy black coat and red and green plaid pants.

While the outfit seemed rather unsuspecting in and of itself, fans were taken aback by the comedian’s black sunglasses, which he kept on for the duration of his on-screen TV appearance–even while chatting with Today‘s Al Roker about the positive energy and good vibes surrounding the despite the forecasted rain and passing downpours.

Viewers immediately noticed Fallon’s decision and teased him online, with some even speculating his reason for keeping the shades on despite there being very little sun.

“Jimmy Fallon on the least sunny day NYC has ever seen #MacysParade,” one X (formerly Twitter) user quipped alongside a throwback photo of Jodie Sweetin in character as Stephanie Tanner wearing oversized yellow shades in an episode of Full House.

“Jimmy Fallon this morning,” someone else wrote beside a gif of Ryan Gosling as Ken in the blockbuster Barbie film.

“Jimmy Fallon looks like he had a Blackout Wednesday that just wrapped up about 30 minutes ago,” a third suggested, adding that they weren’t “[judging] just observing” the star and that “sunglasses on an overcast day is a dead giveaway.”

“i am holding space for drunk jimmy fallon this Thanksgiving morning,” another viral tweet joked.

“Is Jimmy Fallon hungover,” one more asked, also pointing out that there’s apparently some hidden meaning for “Sunglasses in The Rain.”

While we may never know the real reason Fallon decided to keep his sunglasses on, there are other reasons for wearing a pair of shades in the rain or on an overcast day that weren’t brought up by fans. For starters, they could be polarized, which is a benefit for better vision even in gross weather, or maybe they’re prescription lenses.

Nonetheless, Fallon wasn’t the only celeb to stir up an online commotion with his appearance at the event. Fans of the NBC weathercaster were convinced producers did him “dirty” with his seat at the desk, which made Roker appear significantly shorter than his counterparts, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

The show also suffered its own technical issue that interrupted its schedule and left fans of The War and Treaty wondering what happened.
