Do you thrive being in a tech booth? Always interested in what it might be like to run lights and sound for a live theatre show? Jubilations Dinner Theatre Calgary is looking for a Mainstage House Technician who can orchestrate the magic of the stage, ensuring sure every light cue, sound effect, mic entrance and flow seamlessly.

As a Mainstage House Technician, you would have set training days for each show, have scheduled dates to run the Mainstage Show and possibly be contracted to run other bookings that use the space and need a technician. There are 5 Mainstage shows a year running Wed-Sun evenings with potential Tuesday evening or matinee shows added.

As Mainstage House Technician, your job would include:
Training: There’d be 3-5 days of training for Mainstage Shows within the first week of opening.
Being available for performances: The Mainstage House Tech would run the show ⅔ of the time, but would also share the responsibility with the current House Tech who is transitioning into another role in the company. The role has potential for becoming full time in the future. Shows run Wed-Sun with some Tuesday shows. Sparse blockout dates of unavailability are acceptable as we would also have an understudy tech available to cover those dates.
Maintaining equipment: The Mainstage House Tech would be responsible for making sure the equipment is properly cleaned and maintained. Any repairs needed can either be done by the Tech or can be sent out for repair. The Mainstage House Tech would have to coordinate that along with the current House Tech.
Doing homework: Training is fast and furious. It’s up to you to continue to refine your skills on your own, be it general skills or the show-specific needs. There will also be time after training before the closing of the show where the tech might not be running the show, so a casual review of the materials in that time is best.

We are willing to train, but a bonus if a candidate demonstrates on their resume:
– Experience dealing technically with live theatre, live band mixing and/or studio sound mixing
– Experience reading a tech script and executing cues
Experience dealing with the following:
– QLab5
– LS9 Digital Sound Board
– ETC Lx Board
– Countryman Headset Mics
– Sound EQ
– Live Audio Mixing
– Soldering
– Lx Hanging/Focusing
– Mover/IQ Lx Fixture Programming

During the interview process, we will be looking for behaviours that demonstrate:
– Ability to handle pressure and think quickly
– Ability to focus on tasks in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities
– Solid attention to detail and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
– Ability to work unsupervised
– Ability to troubleshoot problems and execute solutions

What’s in it for you?
– Be part of a team that fosters a fun, friendly and exciting environment
– Pay is a contracted weekly rate.
– Staff discounts and free tickets
