JOB POSTING: Theatre Artist/Educator

Position: Full-time salaried position
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday (some weekend and evening work will be required)
Location: On-site in Rosebud, Alberta
Summary: Join a team of dedicated theatre professionals who are passionate about creating great stories on stage, training the artists of tomorrow, and enriching people’s lives.

Rosebud Theatre & School of the Arts (RTSA) is looking for a highly skilled individual who possesses strong theatre skills, is a team player, and has a vision to serve the organization in the area of post-secondary theatre training while contributing to the attainment of Rosebud’s mission and mandate.

The ideal candidate is an authentic and innovative person with a background working with both students and professionals. They are a theatre professional who is also a teacher (ideally with an MFA), who can specialize in one or more of the following areas: movement for the actor, voice & text, theatre history, singing, technical theatre, theatre design, or choreography & dance. They have an interest in working in the faith-based not-for-profit world, and care about the performing arts and arts education, especially in rural Alberta.

They are community-minded, and able to inspire students and their colleagues to bring their best self to their work. They understand Rosebud’s unique brand and mission and can contribute to embodying that vision forward.

The position will include attending instructor meetings, education team meetings, and production meetings as required, as well as some committee work. This position is salaried and comes with a benefit package.

Job Function:

  • Serve as an active artist/educator within the Education & Theatre departments
    • Teach various theatre courses as assigned
    • Serve as a theatre artist in Rosebud shows as an actor, choreographer, director, voice coach, etc.
    • Participate in committee work
    • Attend department meetings as required
  • Foster an enthusiastic and generous culture of faith and creativity within the organization
  • Provide caring, compassionate, and inspirational mentorship for Rosebud students
  • Support the organization’s mission and mandate within the community and beyond

Expected Results:

  • Professional, relevant, and effective theatre training for Rosebud students
  • Students who are well trained, challenged, and feel valued and respected throughout the process
  • Solid and thorough understanding of the core elements of actor training for all students
  • Professional involvement in Rosebud Theatre shows providing excellence in acting, choreography, directing, voice, music, design, etc.
  • Execution of college level course syllabi, course outlines, grading, and evaluations

Required Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in theatre
  • Terminal degree (MFA) in theatre is a definite asset
  • At least 5 experience in the professional theatre industry and/or post-secondary teaching
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Comfortable working in the Microsoft environment
  • Strong understanding of professional theatre training
  • A broad theatrical skillset with the ability to teach in a variety of areas
  • A solid working knowledge of a variety of musical instruments may be an asset
  • Comfortable working in a variety of theatrical genres
  • The ability to effectively teach singing may be an asset
  • Experience and expertise in a variety of areas of theatre is a definite asset, including but not limited to voice & text, movement for the actor, choreography/dance, technical theatre, theatre design, theatre history, singing, music direction, etc.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Excited to support and further the vision of Rosebud Theatre & School of the Arts in the successful execution of strategies and goals
