Journalist Issues 'Scathing' Response to Martha Stewart, Who Mistakenly Claimed She Was Dead

A journalist who Martha Stewart mistakenly claimed was dead clapped back at the home and hospitality expert with an article published earlier this week.

Andrea Peyser, whom Stewart identified as “New York Post lady” in Netflix’s new documentary Martha, issued her response to Stewart’s claim in an article titled, “Hey Martha Stewart, you gloated about the death of a Post columnist—but I’m alive, b****!” The Post published the article on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Stewart, 83, made her claim during the portion of the documentary about her life and career that explored her 2004 conviction on federal charges following an insider trading investigation. The TV personality recalled the day that the jury reached its verdict.

“Guilty, guilty, guilty, on all these counts of, whatever,” Stewart said. She then reflected on who else was in the courtroom while the verdict was read. “New York Post lady was there, just looking so smug,” the businesswoman said, adding that the journalist “had written horrible things during the entire trial.”

It was then that Stewart made her incorrect claim about Peyser. “She’s dead now, thank goodness. Nobody has to put up with that crap that she was writing all the time,” she said.

In her Thursday article, Peyser explained that she’d written “weeks of Post columns” about Stewart’s trial, which she dubbed “Circus Marthamus.”

“News of my passing came as a shock,” Peyser wrote, shortly thereafter alleging that Stewart has “focused her fury at me.”

Later Thursday, Stewart mentioned the article while speaking onstage at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women. “She wrote this very scathing article today in the New York Post,” Stewart said before appearing to joke that it was her “favorite newspaper.” After reciting Peyser’s article title to the crowd, Stewart suggested that the piece “will probably cause more people to watch my documentary,” according to People.
