The estranged wife of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared a social media post that prompted some raised eyebrows. The post comes as Trudeau’s rumored romance with singer Katy Perry heats up.
On October 13, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau shared a video and a lengthy caption on her Instagram page. Her message was about love and letting go. She never mentioned Trudeau specifically, or her marriage. However, given the content of the message, some of her supporters could not help but think her post was essentially a reaction to the latest headlines about Perry and Trudeau.
As People shared on October 11, Perry and Trudeau were spotted on a yacht in Santa Barbara, California, showing quite a bit of affection toward one another.
In her video, Grégoire Trudeau said, “Sometimes we forget that nothing we love was ever meant to be kept. The people, the places, even the moments that once felt, I don’t know, infinite, right? Time asked us to not cling to them. And yet we do. I do. Because to hold on feels safer than to let go.”
“But love was never about possession. It was always about presence… When we release what we cannot keep, we makes space for the truth of connection, intimacy, the memories.”
Grégoire Trudeau mentioned that her father died in the past year. “I feel that with grief also comes grace,” she noted.
She suggested that “love’s deepest teaching” is “to stand open-hearted in the face of impermanence, to honor what has been, and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way.”
Her followers were quick to post supportive comments for Grégoire Trudeau. Several left strings of positive emojis for her, and others shared that the message resonated deeply with them.
“Such a classy woman,” one person commented.
Another comment, written in French, when translated read, “Sometimes letting go is the hardest part, but it also frees our hearts to love ourselves harder. This is self care!”
Someone else praised, “Thank you for sharing your truth, friend. I know that what you have been through is not easy, but the way you are present, here in your moment is very admirable.” That person noted they were in the midst of their own marriage ending, and they added, “I have nothing but respect” for Grégoire Trudeau.
Grégoire Trudeau shared the same post on her Facebook page, as well, and also received supportive responses there.
One comment read, “So true! Connection is something we feel, not something we hold.”
