Kiefer Sutherland found himself trending on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, April 4 after reports surfaced that Ralph Fiennes is reportedly in talks to play President Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
What does that have to do with Kiefer you might ask? Hunger Games fans will tell you that role was played by Kiefer’s father, Donald Sutherland, in all four of the previous Hunger Games films, from the first movie in 2012 through 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay–Part 2.
The connection wasn’t lost on Kiefer Sutherland fans on X, with one fan posting, “No. I like Ralph Fiennes as an actor, but Kiefer Sutherland is right there!” along with a GIF of Kiefer toasting with a glass of brown liquor.

Others agreed with one writing, “what’s even the point of nepotism if kiefer sutherland doesn’t get to play president snow.”
Another wondered if fans were going a little too far based on the limited information they had. “Did anyone stop to ask Kiefer Sutherland if he wanted to play Snow? Like at all? Let alone in the past year since his dad died? We don’t even know if this man was offered + declined, auditioned or didn’t, and I’m seeing insistence it should be him regardless,” the wrote.
Still, a few others insisted Kiefer was the man for the job. “God knows I love the bitch, but Kiefer Sutherland is RIGHT THERE,” wrote one, with another adding, “That’s crazy considering Kiefer Sutherland is the exact age Snow is in that book.”
Kiefer Sutherland is 58. Donald Sutherland died on June 20, 2024, at the age of 88 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
