Kristin Davis revealed that her Sex and the City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker told her that she had “body dysmorphia.”

During the Monday, August 11, episode of her “Are You a Charlotte” podcast, Davis, 60, admitted she had a “thinness” issue while starring as Charlotte York on the hit HBO series. She then recalled Parker, 60, telling her, “You have body dysmorphia” when she would bring it up. However, she admitted she wasn’t sure that she believed Parker.

“I don’t think I do,” she told guest Benito Skinner. “Because the world is literally telling me daily I am pear-shaped.”

Body dysmorphic “is a mental health condition in which you can’t stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance — a flaw that appears minor or can’t be seen by others,” according to The Mayo Clinic. “But you may feel so embarrassed, ashamed and anxious that you may avoid many social situations.”

Davis went on to explain that the public’s fascination with her body led to “disordered eating.” She continued, “You’re starving yourself. I remember fainting in a parking lot one time because I was on some crazy diet.”

The Melrose Place alum even recalled being approached by fans who would tell her, “Oh, but you’re not fat.”

“I know they didn’t mean anything bad, they meant it as a compliment,” Davis said. “But it’s because I’m standing next to Sarah Jessica.”

Davis is best known for portraying Charlotte on Sex and the City, which ran from 1998 until 2004. In addition to reprising the role in two movies, she also returned for the show’s revival, And Just Like That. The show premiered in 2021, while it was revealed on August 1 that the current third season will be its last.

After the show’s cancellation was announced, Davis took to social media to break her silence on the news. “I am profoundly sad,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories. “I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love.”
