Caitlin Clarkis frustrated. The most famous face in the WNBA has been sidelined with injury to her groin and ankle since July 15, 2025. Now, the Indiana Fever star is updating fans on the status of her injury and whether she’ll return during the 2025 WNBA season. And she can count Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James as one of her biggest supporters.

In a lengthy social media post shared on Thursday, the 23-year-old shooting sensation expressed her “frustration” and “disappointment” with being sidelined before sharing that she won’t return during the current WNBA season.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good. The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs🖤”

LeBron James was one of the first to react to Clark’s news.

Will the Indiana Fever Make the WNBA Playoffs?

The Fever still have a chance of making the WNBA Playoffs even without Clark on the court. There are two ways the Fever can see the 2025 postseason. They can either win their remaining games or benefit from a special combination of enough games won and enough games lost for the Los Angeles Sparks. Either way, there’s still a chance.

If the Fever do make the WNBA Playoffs, Caitlin Clark won’t be on the court, but she’ll have a cheerleader in LeBron, who knows what it’s like to watch from the sidelines when injuries keep you from getting in the game.
