One of the major titles from the “HISTORY Honors 250” collection is coming to Netflix. As part of a major new licensing agreement with A+E Networks, which we’ve already covered, is bringing a bunch of HISTORY Channel titles to Netflix, the critically acclaimed documentary event Sitting Bull—executive produced by Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio—is set to make its Netflix debut next month alongside them.

We can confirm that the complete Sitting Bull docuseries will be available to stream on Netflix US starting Monday, April 13th, 2026.

The arrival of Sitting Bull is part of a curated wave of HISTORY Channel content hitting the platform this spring. Following a successful year of licensing from HBO and Disney, Netflix has turned its attention back to A+E Networks to bolster its “docudrama” offerings.

Sitting Bull arrives alongside several other high-profile History Channel titles on April 13th, including:

  • American Godfathers: The Five Families (Narrated by Michael Imperioli)
  • The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen (Also produced by Leonardo DiCaprio)
  • The Booze, Bets and Sex That Built America
  • America: Our Defining Hours

The Lowdown: What is ‘Sitting Bull’ About?

Originally aired in May 2025 as a four-hour television event, Sitting Bull charts the extraordinary life of the legendary Lakota leader. Produced by Appian Way Productions and Stephen David Entertainment, the series blends expert interviews with high-budget, authentic scripted sequences.

The story follows Sitting Bull’s journey from a tribal warrior to the spiritual and political leader who united Native nations in an unprecedented alliance. The series provides a deep dive into pivotal moments of American history, including the Battle of Little Bighorn, his time in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show, and his final, tragic stand to preserve the Lakota way of life.

“A definitive portrait of a Native American icon that trades Hollywood tropes for historical accuracy and cultural depth.”

One of the standout features of Sitting Bull is its commitment to indigenous representation both in front of and behind the camera. The production partnered with IllumiNative and Creative Native Network to ensure Lakota involvement in every aspect of the project.

  • Mo Brings Plenty (Yellowstone) serves as the series narrator.
  • Michael Spears (1923, Dances with Wolves) portrays Sitting Bull in the scripted reenactments.
  • Executive Producers: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Phillip Watson, Crystal Echo Hawk, and Stephen David.

Why It’s a Must-Watch

If you enjoyed Netflix’s Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War or the That Built franchise, Sitting Bull is a natural next step. It offers a unique and authentic perspective on the American West, focusing on the tactical brilliance and spiritual groundedness of a man who became an international symbol of resistance.
