Lies of P is arguably the best Soulslike not developed by subgenre architect FromSoftware, and the reimagined Pinocchio story further won over players with an absolutely wild post-credits tease. But director Ji-won Choi recently said the upcoming Overture expansion won’t expand on that surprise cameo.

“Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future,” Choi told IGN at the Game Developers Conference, also refusing to share anything about the planned sequel. IGN did not report whether or not Choi’s nose grew during this interview.

If you’re going to freak out about being exposed to Lies of P spoilers, stop reading now. You have been warned.

In addition to the obvious fairy tale on which it’s based, Lies of P is full of references to other classic literature. The Picture of Dorian Gray, Beauty and the Beast, Frankenstein, and Sherlock Holmes are all either overtly mentioned or hinted at over the course of the game, but the biggest crossover — at least in the magnitude of player reactions — came from a post-credits cutscene revealing The Wizard of Oz’s Dorothy Gale as a key figure in the ongoing story.

Sadly, this was kind of expected. Overture is described by developer Neowiz as a “dramatic prequel” that “transports you to the city of Krat in its final days,” after all. Choi did, however, encourage folks to replay Lies of P before Overture during his conversation with IGN.

“When you play through the base game again, you’ll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience,” Choi said. “A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you’ll be able to actually see that and experience that in [the] expansion. There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn’t get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that, are going to be included in expansion.”
