Wild Rose Country may not exactly evoke the palm-lined glamour of Hollywood, but there’s a lot of filming in Alberta! From adventure-packed Westerns to hockey epics and romance novels brought to life, we’re not limited either.
Now we can’t promise you any celebrity sightings, or “discovered-on-the-sidewalk” opportunities. But we can tell you what’s filming and where – the rest of the movie magic is up to you!
What’s Filming in 2025?
Smudge The Blades
This one is for the hockey fans! Smudge the Blades is an upcoming coming-of-age comedy about an Indigenous youth hockey club. The movie aims to bring authentic, community-driven stories to the big screen and will be filming in and around Edmonton starting March 17, 2025, until May 3, 2025.
Where: Edmonton and surrounding areas
Billy the Kid – Season 3
The exciting Western drama, Billy the Kid, will be filming its third and final season this year in our fair province. According to ACTRA Alberta, the conclusion to the American outlaw’s adventure will begin filming in and around Calgary from March 19, 2025, to July 11, 2025.

The Land of NOD
If you love a good scary movie, you’ll be excited about this one. A24, the studio behind Talk to Me, The Whale, and Pearl, is filming its next big horror film in Edmonton this spring! The Land of Nod will begin filming on March 24, 2025, and go until April 24, 2025.

Reminders of Him
If you enjoyed the most recent Colleen Hoover adaptation, It Ends With Us, then get ready for another one! Reminders of Him will be another Hoover adaptation that revolves around a young mother who returns home after prison to try to build a relationship with her daughter. The film is set to start production in Calgary on April 16, 2025, and wrap up around June 23, 2025, with plans to release on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2026.
