Fans have been marveling over Lizzo’s impressive weight loss for months now, but the “Juice” singer doesn’t like to look at it as a loss at all.

In a new interview on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the musician emphasized that the pounds she’s shed have been released, rather than lost.

“The weight that is no longer on me is not just fat or physical,” she explained. “I released so much to get to this point and I think people can see that and I don’t want to describe anything as loss.”

“I’m not experiencing any loss,” she emphasized. In fact, she said she’s “actually gained so much,” like “a sense of self” and “a lifestyle that [she] actually really love[s]” and that she feels like she “can maintain.”

Additionally, she’s “gained new perspective on nutrition and the science behind cardio and weight lifting.”

It’s something she knows not everybody is going to necessarily understand, but feels like the “the most body-positive way” to describe her experiences.

“I don’t want to use any negative terms,” she continued, expressing concern for others, particularly “young people,” who might be watching.

“I want to be very intentional with the words that come out of my mouth,” she said. “There’s young people who are watching me, and they’re experiencing what I’m putting into the world, and they’re applying it to their own experience and their own life—just like I did when I was a kid.”

Fans were grateful for her candor and her care, with one commenting, “This fills my heart. Lizzo is such an inspiration!”

“Lizzo’s openness about her journey is inspiring. Her insights on setting boundaries and personal growth resonate deeply. Thank you for sharing your truth,” another wrote, while a third called her “vulnerability…such a gift.”
