The pop star shared several throwback images of herself with Ciccone in the 16-part Instagram carousel. The dancer and designer filled various roles for his older sister over her decades-long career, performing in music videos early on and later becoming the creative director of some of her tours, among many other tasks.

It is “hard to explain our bond,” Madonna, 66, wrote of Ciccone, whom she described as “the closest human to me for so long.”

That bond “grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo,” she added.

The “Material Girl” singer’s caption went on to explain that dance was “a kind of superglue” that held the siblings together as they “danced through the madness of our childhood.” She recalled Ciccone following in her footsteps when she set out to establish a career in New York City, and working together as opportunities to do so popped up.

“My brother was right by my side. He was a painter a poet and a visionary. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, Which he sometimes used against me but I always forgave him,” the “Vogue” singer recalled.

Though Madonna and Ciccone had rocky times in recent years that caused them to “not speak for sometime,” Madonna said they “found our way back to each other” when Ciccone fell ill.

“I did my best to keep him alive as long as possible,” she noted, adding that she is “glad he’s not suffering anymore.”

“There will never be anyone like him,” she concluded. “I know he’s dancing somewhere.💔.”
