More weekend closures are on the way for Montreal drivers, with multiple construction projects expected to disrupt traffic across the region from Friday night through Monday morning.

According to Quebec’s transport ministry, key routes including the Ville-Marie Tunnel, Honoré-Mercier Bridge, and Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel will see full or partial closures as crews carry out scheduled work.

So, if you’ve got plans to hit the road, here are the areas that could cause frustration:

Ville-Marie Tunnel (Route 136 Westbound)
From Friday, May 23 at 11:59 p.m. to Monday, May 26 at 5 a.m., the westbound Ville-Marie Tunnel will be fully closed between Exit 5 (Robert-Bourassa/Samuel-De Champlain Bridge) and Rue du Fort.

Drivers will be detoured via Rue Saint-Jacques, Autoroute 10 East (Bonaventure), and Autoroute 15 North through the Turcot Interchange. The Lucien-L’Allier entrance will also be closed. Expect detours via Rue Guy and Boulevard René-Lévesque.

Honoré-Mercier Bridge (Route 138)
From Saturday, May 24 at 11 p.m. to Monday, May 26 at 5 a.m., there will be contraflow traffic on the upstream span (toward the South Shore), leaving just one lane open in each direction.

Boulevard LaSalle under the bridge will also be closed between Avenue du Trésor-Caché and Avenue Lafleur. A detour will be in place via Rue Airlie.

Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel (Autoroute 25)
The southbound tunnel will be fully closed from Friday, May 23 at 10 p.m. to Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m., between Exit 5 (Rue Sherbrooke) in Montreal and Route 132 in Longueuil.

Northbound will also be closed during the same window between Exit 90 (Route 132) and the Hochelaga entrance.

Suggested detours include the Jacques-Cartier Bridge via Boulevard René-Lévesque or Avenue Papineau. Trucks will be rerouted via Pie-IX or other heavy vehicle-friendly routes.

Pont Laviolette (Trois-Rivières)
If you’re heading between Trois-Rivières and Bécancour, two of four lanes on the Laviolette Bridge will be closed from Friday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 6:30 a.m. One lane will remain open in each direction.

REM (Réseau express métropolitain)
The REM will be completely shut down every Saturday and Sunday through May due to testing and commissioning work. Shuttle buses will be in service.

Additional closures to watch for:

  • Autoroute 30 eastbound near the Serge-Marcil Bridge (Beauharnois): Two of three lanes will be closed Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Bonaventure Expressway: Ongoing single-lane closures near the Peel Basin and Île-des-Sœurs exit through early June.
