Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group unveiled plans to manage a new luxury resort and residences located in Boquerón Bay, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. The Mandarin Oriental Esencia, Puerto Rico, is expected to open in 2028 as the group’s third property in the Caribbean region, thereby bolstering its regional presence.

Strategically situated amidst rich biodiversity, the property aims to provide a captivating experience of Puerto Rico’s landscapes, including stunning beaches, protected mangroves, and serene lagoons. Boquerón Bay is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, vibrant gastronomy, and sports and wellness activities, making it an ideal setting for Mandarin Oriental.

The resort will feature 106 rooms and suites, each with a balcony, terrace, or private garden. An exclusive collection of 83 residential villas will be spread across Esencia’s spectacular beach, hillside, and cliffs. Additionally, six-story boutique buildings will house approximately 200 private residences near the town center.

Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, expressed excitement about expanding their Caribbean footprint into Puerto Rico, thanking Reuben Brothers and Three Rules Capital for the partnership. Kleitman anticipates delivering a truly extraordinary destination for both guests and residents.

The resort plans to offer a variety of amenities, including five distinct dining destinations, a beach club, a poolside restaurant and bar, and a sophisticated lounge bar. A highlight will be the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, an expansive wellness sanctuary offering a range of signature wellness, beauty, and massage treatments. The design of Mandarin Oriental Esencia, Puerto Rico, will be led by the award-winning architectural firm Studio MK27, based in São Paulo, Brazil, with a focus on sustainable practices.

Will Bennett, CEO and managing partner of Three Rules Capital, describes Esencia as a new cosmopolitan community unlike any other in the Caribbean. Jamie Reuben, Principal of Reuben Brothers, also praises Puerto Rico as one of the world’s most beautiful destinations and promising growth markets.
