Marriott International has announced its plans to expand into the outdoor lodging segment by acquiring the Postcard Cabins brand and entering a long-term partnership with Trailborn. The company intends to offer its guests more options for accommodations in nature-oriented destinations and expects to launch an outdoor-focused collection by 2025.
Postcard Cabins, previously known as Getaway Outposts, offer travelers and small groups a chance to disconnect and enjoy nature. Each Postcard Cabin property consists of tiny cabins within a two-hour drive of major urban areas. The pet-friendly properties feature modern design, private bathrooms, full kitchens, and ample space between cabins for privacy and relaxation. There are currently 29 Postcard Cabin properties with over 1,200 cabins across the United States.
Trailborn, on the other hand, is an outdoor hospitality brand that delivers bespoke hotels built for adventure in the American outdoors. It currently has 559 rooms across five iconic outdoor destinations, with several projects in development. Trailborn properties are near Rocky Mountain National Park, the Grand Canyon, and Highlands, NC, with upcoming properties in Wrightsville Beach, NC, and Mendocino, CA.
By 2025, Marriott will incorporate both the Postcard Cabins and Trailborn portfolios into its systems and platforms, including Marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app.
Marriott’s move into the outdoor lodging segment also presents franchisees, owners, and developers with opportunities to affiliate their outdoor-focused properties with Marriott’s portfolio and Marriott Bonvoy, which currently has over 219 million members.
