Marriott International experienced a remarkable year of growth in 2024, with an impressive 123,000 gross rooms openings and a 6.8% increase in net rooms. Over 577,000 rooms were in the company’s development pipeline by year-end. The company has been amplifying its product offerings across various travel segments — from affordable midscale to luxury.

In 2024, Marriott signed a record of over 1,200 deals with owners, franchisees, and developers. These deals represent nearly 162,000 rooms globally. A significant 34% of these room signings resulted from conversion opportunities, positioning Marriott as a key player in the sector.

Marriott has also fortified its global leadership in luxury. Its luxury portfolio, comprising seven brands, now includes 658 hotels, resorts, and branded residential properties across 74 countries. In 2024, Marriott signed a record number of 61 deals for luxury hotels and resorts, closing the year with 266 in the pipeline.

In the affordable midscale sector, Marriott has increased momentum after its entry. In 2024, the company focused on offering regionally relevant lodging options for every trip purpose. City Express by Marriott is now set to expand into Nicaragua, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil. As of 2024, the brand has 153 open properties (17,777 rooms), with 53 in the pipeline (5,673 rooms).

In addition to traditional hospitality offerings, Marriott has ventured into non-traditional segments. In December 2024, Marriott announced the expansion of its outdoor-focused lodging offerings. Furthermore, Marriott announced a long-term licensing agreement with Sonder Holdings in August 2024, adding over 9,000 rooms to Marriott’s open portfolio and approximately 1,700 rooms to its development pipeline at year-end.

Marriott closed 2024 with over 9,300 properties across 144 countries and territories, celebrating milestone growth around the world. The U.S. and Canada region alone totaled over 1 million open rooms across 6,307 properties, with nearly 263,000 rooms (representing 2,161 properties) in the pipeline.

In the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region, Marriott signed a record-breaking 109 deals representing 21,439 rooms in 2024. This increased the company’s pipeline in the region to 363 properties and 77,532 rooms, a 12% increase from the previous year.

In Greater China (GC), Marriott signed a record 161 deals representing nearly 31,000 rooms in 2024. The Caribbean and Latin American (CALA) region saw a 15% increase from the previous year, with 183 properties representing 27,817 rooms in the pipeline. Finally, the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region saw a 10% increase from the previous year, with 596 properties representing 104,731 rooms in the pipeline at year-end.
