Marriott International, Inc. plans to open the world’s first Autograph Collection safari camp, marking a significant expansion into nature-based travel. The Mapito Safari Camp in Tanzania’s Serengeti is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2025.

The camp is strategically located in the heart of the Serengeti ecosystem, near the Fort Ikoma gate of the Serengeti National Park. It is positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, which is directly on the route of the Great Migration. This migration between May and July sees vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope pass through the region. The area surrounding the camp is teeming with wildlife throughout the year, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and giraffes, offering guests remarkable encounters in every season.

Mapito Safari Camp will feature 16 tented suites and a two-bedroom villa, each equipped with an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing. The camp also plans to include a spa, fitness center, swimming pool, and multiple dining options. One dining option is ‘The Boma,’ a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.

The camp’s design will draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the local Ikoma culture. Sustainable practices will be incorporated into the camp’s operations to support conservation efforts and minimize environmental impact.

Visitors can expect a range of immersive experiences at the Mapito Safari Camp. In addition to spectacular daytime game drives, there will be evocative night safaris that showcase the Serengeti’s nocturnal rhythms. Additionally, guests can participate in walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and engaging with the local Ikoma tribe.

Rishen Patel, the developer of Mapito Safari Camp, is collaborating with Marriott International to bring this unique travel experience to the Serengeti. The camp is expected to offer an intimate and immersive experience that reflects both the region’s natural wonder and the brand’s timeless storytelling and craftsmanship.

The Autograph Collection currently includes over 330 hotels globally.
