The small-format restaurant chain takes its name from a lesser-known McDonald’s mascot from the 1980s and 1990s, CosMc, an alien that visits McDonaldland in search of food.

The first location opened in Bolingbrook, Illinois, with a goal of opening approximately 10 CosMc’s pilot locations by the end of 2024.

In a Jan. 9 press release, the Golden Arches gave more insight into how the pilot program has gone, detailing that the chain opened “one location in Illinois and six in Texas,” and revealing that the most popular beverages on the menu were “Island Pick Me Up Punch, Churro Cold Brew Frappe and the Sour Energy Burst.”

The release then noted that “the Fruity Popping Boba” was the “most popular drink customization” at the restaurants.

Though the menu at CosMc’s is led by drinks, there were a few standout food items in the pilot: Savory Hashbrown Bites and McPops, a mashup of donut holes and filled donuts. The small treats come in Cookie Butter, Apple Cinnamon, and Hazelnut flavors.

Specific locations were not listed, but the release detailed that three of the larger CosMc’s locations will be shuttered, and they will instead “open two new smaller format stores in Texas in 2025.”
