Meliá Hotels International will open its first property in Honduras on Roatán Island in December under the Sol by Meliá brand.

Meliá Hotels International is set to debut in Honduras with the opening of a new resort on Roatán Island. The property, currently known as Media Luna Resort & Beach Club, will be rebranded as Sol Roatán Media Luna Resort. The opening is scheduled for December, marking Meliá’s first venture in the country.

The resort is located on the southern coast of Roatán, away from the more frequented tourist areas such as West End. This location offers guests access to less crowded beaches, such as Camp Bay, and provides opportunities for excursions, including mangrove tunnel tours in Oak Ridge and boat trips to Little French Key. Roatán is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, the world’s second-largest barrier reef, which offers a rich marine ecosystem for diving and snorkeling.

The Sol Roatán Media Luna Resort will be a 4-star establishment. It will feature a buffet restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, children’s activities, and a diving center with a private dock. Additional facilities, such as a wellness spa and event spaces, are planned as part of a comprehensive renovation to align with the Sol by Meliá brand.

The collaboration between Meliá Hotels International and HMResorts, led by Piero Dibattista, has been crucial in the development of this project. The opening of the resort is part of Meliá’s strategic expansion into new markets, aimed at enhancing its presence in the leisure travel sector.

The Sol by Meliá brand focuses on providing experiences for multigenerational families, couples, and groups, with an emphasis on integrating technology and innovative programming. The brand aims to offer a modern vacation experience that connects guests with their surroundings.
