The last surviving member of the Mamas & the Papas, Michelle Phillips, just made a rare appearance in the California sun.
The iconic singer, best known as a founding member of the legendary 1960s folk-rock group, made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 11. Phillips, who recently turned 81 on June 4, was spotted at a local gas station, refueling her classic Mercedes and looking like a California dreamer in a red and blue floral kimono. She accessorized with flat shoes and dark sunglasses, her blonde hair pulled back in a casual bun.

As an original member of the group, Phillips has witnessed the band’s remarkable journey from the highs of hit songs like “California Dreamin'” and the Grammy winning “Monday, Monday,” to the challenges they faced during their years together. The group, which also featured Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, and her late ex-husband John Phillips, left a mark on music history.

After the band’s final album in 1971, Phillips ventured into acting, where she found success with roles in films like Dillinger and TV shows such as Knots Landing and The Love Boat. Her acting career even earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Though she’s often kept a low profile in recent years, Phillips was previously spotted in March while taking a walk in the City of Angels. In the photos, obtained by People, Phillips opted for a black and white striped shirt with some flared black pants and dark sunglasses. Before that, she attended the Grammy awards in 2024 as well as a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event.
