Mexico wants to host summer Olympics in 2036 or 2040

Lausanne, Switzerland –
Mexico has announced its intention to host the Summer Olympics in 2036 or 2040 and says most of the necessary sports infrastructure is already in place.
Interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics has been expressed by officials in countries such as Egypt, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, Qatar and South Korea.
Mexico City hosted the Summer Olympics in 1968.
Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrado and Mexican Olympic Committee President María José Alcala met with IOC President Thomas Bach on Friday. Ebrard delivered a letter of intent to Bach.
No cities or regions were identified, but Ebrard and Alcala said a commission would be set up to support the initiative.
Last October, International Olympic Committee Executive Director Christoph de Koepper said he was in discussions with “10 interested NOCs and regions on four continents” about potential bids for future Summer Olympics. The 2036 edition may be awarded next.
