Michael Douglas shared rare insight into his marriage with Catherine Zeta-Jones by making a sweet comment about his wife while celebrating their joint birthdays.

“To my birthday sister—what a joy celebrating another year with you!” Douglas, 81, wrote alongside an Instagram photo with Zeta-Jones, 56, as they sat together in a golf cart, which was shared on Thursday, September 25. “Congratulations on your spectacular game at the Celebrity Ryder Cup. Happy Birthday to the love of my life @catherinezetajones.”

Shortly after Douglas shared the photo, Zeta-Jones made it clear the love is mutual by writing in the comments section, “Happy birthday darling. I can’t think of anyone else to share a birthday with.”

In addition to Zeta-Jones, several of Douglas’ fans took to the comments section to wish the couple a happy birthday. “Both are looking great. Happy Birthday to both of you, enjoy the time,” one social media user wrote, while another added, “Happy birthday you two loving couple.”

Zeta-Jones also shared a tribute to Douglas on her own Instagram page. “Happy Birthday Michael! Sharing this special day with you is once in a lifetime!” she captioned several photos of the couple over the years.

The couple has been going strong ever since they wed in 2000, and they’ve gotten used to living life on their own terms. In August, Zeta-Jones shared rare insight into their home life together, which includes four houses around the world, while speaking to The Times.

“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” she said at the time, admitting that some people may have issues with their lavish lifestyle. “Two celebrities together make 10. It’s just the way it is. There’s two versions of the story and there’s two make-believes. We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing. And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits.”

The Chicago actress added of her husband, “We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart. We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
