The singer marked what would have been Michael Jackson’s 68th birthday by releasing two deeply personal songs.

Michael, known around the world as the “King of Pop,” died in June 2009, when Paris was just 11 years old.

Paris, now 28, released “The Breeze” and “Just Me and You” as a double single on Saturday, August 29. “The Breeze” ends with a moving recording of Michael’s voice telling his daughter, “I Love You, Paris.”

The private moment left fans in tears. However, the “Let Down” singer stressed that the songs were not intended as a conventional public memorial.

“It’s not a tribute. It’s not a commemoration. It’s not a demonstration of any kind,” she wrote on Instagram.

“It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience – with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one.”

Michael died in June 2009 after suffering cardiac arrest, ABC News reported at the time. Paris, the pop icon’s only daughter with Debbie Rowe, was 11 at the time.

Later, Paris offers a stark reflection on the continued consumption of her father’s legacy:
