In advance of the California Michelin Guide ceremony on June 25, 2025, in Sacramento, the tire brand and culinary awards organization just added seven new Southern California restaurants to its guide, including four in San Diego. These new additions are eligible to receive a Michelin star at the Michelin Guide California ceremony this summer or a Bib Gourmand designation.

In San Diego, the new additions are Encinitas breakfast and lunch destination Atelier Manna, chef Eric Bost’s ambitious Carlsbad tasting menu restaurant Lilo, Oceanside burger and fries stop Tanner’s Prime Burgers, and contemporary Chinese pop-up gone permanent 24 Suns. Though the Michelin Guide has been steady in adding new restaurants from the San Diego area, only four places currently hold stars: Valle in Oceanside, Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad, Addison, and Soichi. Out of the new additions, Lilo looks to be the most likely one to receive a star (or two), considering its format of thoughtful tasting menus served at a counter around a fully open kitchen.

At the 2024 Michelin Guide California ceremony, Addison, Jeune et Jolie, Soichi Sushi, and Valle kept their stars, while Old Town sushi spot Sushi Tadokoro lost its star. Liberty Station’s Solare was also dropped from the Bib Gourmand list. There were no new stars awarded to San Diego restaurants at the 2024 ceremony.

This year’s ceremony will be held on June 25, 2025 at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center in Sacramento, California.
