It’s always a thrill when Saturday Night Live taps a special guest, especially a show alum, to play a high-profile politician and Season 50 has not disappointed. Along with Dana Carvey as exiting President Joe Biden, and Maya Rudolph as former Vice President Kamala Harris, this season has also welcomed back Carvey’s Wayne’s World co-star, SNL icon Mike Myers, to play Elon Musk.

The Canadian comedian reprised his satirical take on the tech exec and de facto head of President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency during this Saturday’s cold open, which saw Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) mediate a meeting between Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernandez) at the Oval Office following the men’s rumored Cabinet shouting match.
While Rubio — who has been renamed “Mark Ruby” by Trump to coincide with his recent English-language order — shared concerns about Elon’s unfettered access to the government, viewers got to hear the POTUS’s inner monologue. “Ah, so boring. This guy can’t stop talking,” a Trumpian voiceover played. “I’m thinking something and not saying it out loud. Whoa, this is a whole new thing. This is crazy! This can save me a lot of trouble. I should do this more often. I won’t, but I should.”
That voiceover bit continued with the arrival of Myers as Musk, with his own amplified and absurd train of thought: “Phase one of my plan is complete: Ingratiate yourself to the President and take over the media. But was taking this job a bad idea? A lot of people seem to really hate me. My Tesla stock is crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by $100 billion dollars.” As he uttered that last line, Myers added a reference to his famed Austin Powers franchise and held his pinkie up to his mouth in Dr. Evil’s signature move, much to the studio audience’s glee.
