Missing father of 3 found inside shark’s stomach, IDed by tattoo – National

The body of an Argentinian man who went missing earlier this month may have been found in the stomach of a shark caught by local fishermen.

Diego Barria, 32, a father of three, went missing on February 18 after driving his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) around the southern province of Chubut, Argentina. Barría’s ATV was found badly damaged on a beach near Rocas Coloradas two days after him, but there was no trace of the man.

A thorough search was conducted to locate Barría, but the investigation made no real progress until Sunday morning. Two fishermen reported to the Coast Guard that he caught three schools of sharks near where Barría’s ATVs are located.

While the fishermen were cleaning up the sharks, “they found a human remains in one of them,” said Daniela Miratrus, the law enforcement officer in charge of the investigation.

Barrier’s family was called to see if they could identify the loved one, and Mirattles said they recognized him “because of a tattoo that appeared on one of those bodies.”

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of Barrier’s death, but the hypothesis investigators are working on is that Barrier had an accident with his ATV on the beach and was dragged into the ocean by a strong storm surge that occurred over the weekend. Thing.

“We presume that Diego was in an accident,” Mirattles said.

According to Comodoro Rivadavia city police chief Christian Ansaldo, the shark at the school where the human remains were found was about 1.5 meters.

Ansaldo said police would follow up with a DNA test to officially confirm that the body was Barría’s.

Virginia Brugger, who claims to be Barrier’s partner, posted on Facebook about Barrier’s disappearance prior to the body’s discovery. On Sunday she posted: I love you forever,” she added with a photo of the two.
