MLB: Dodgers beat Cubs 9-4

Chicago –

James Outman and Max Muncy each hit two homers in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 9-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

Outman went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs. He has hit seven home runs this season, the most by a Dodgers rookie in his March and his April.

Muncey’s second home run of the game was hit by Cubs reliever Brad Boxberger in the ninth inning, and Outman then hit his second one-hitter. Muncy has hit his 10th home run, the most home runs this season.

A nine-run scoring blitz came the day after the Dodgers’ 13–0 loss to the Cubs.

Muncy’s first home run was a two-run homer off Cubs reliever Mark Reiter Jr. in the seventh inning.

Nico Herner hit a two-run homer for the Cubs for the second time in seven games.

A day after Drew Smiley had a perfect game in the eighth inning, Cubs starter Hayden Wesneski faced a no-out bases-loaded jam in the first inning. Mookie Betts singled, Freddie Freeman doubled left and Muncy walked, matching the number of runners the Dodgers had on Friday. Wesneschi was able to force second baseman Herner, who turned a double play when Betts scored, to hit a sharp ground ball to JD Martinez. Jason Heyward ended the inning with a flyout to the middle caution track.

Dodgers starter Dustin May found himself in the same predicament as Wesneski in the first inning, with the bases loaded without an out. Horner, who scored first on a single, came in to score on Seiya Suzuki’s fielder’s choice. Seeing Cody Bellinger, Patrick Wisdom popped out to end the first innings in May.

May (2-1) calmed down after a rocky first pitching 5 1/3 innings. He won the game with 2 hits, 2 runs, 6 strikeouts, and 3 walks.

Outman hit his sixth home run this season into the right field basket, leading off the second inning.

Martinez doubled on Outman’s single in the fourth to score and give the Dodgers a 3–1 lead.

Eric Hosmer hit a double to center in the fourth, and Suzuki scored from the first.

Pinch hitter Miguel Vargas added an insurance run for the Dodgers on an RBI single off Cubs reliever Michael Rucker in the sixth to extend the lead to 4-2.

Horner hit a two-run homer off Dodgers reliever Yensei Almonte in the seventh to cut the lead to 6–4. Herner hits consecutive home runs.

Wesneski (1-1) went 4 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits.
