‘Moana 2’ Is Coming to Streaming: Here's How to Watch

Moana is back, and the Hawaiian Disney princess is already racking up an impressive score at the box office. Moana 2 opened exclusively in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024, ahead of the Thanksgiving holidays and, together with Wicked and Gladiator II, helped launch the most lucrative Thanksgiving weekend box office ever. 

While Moana 2 was originally designed to be a Disney+ TV show, the series was reworked into a film after Disney head Bob Iger felt that the project deserved to be more than just a miniseries. Iger’s hunch is certainly paying off as Moana heads into what will likely be an exciting holiday season for Disney with Mufasa: The Lion King coming to theaters later in December.

Moana 2 is not currently streaming online, but it is expected to be available via video-on-demand (VOD) platforms starting sometime in the next few months. As a Disney film, it will also likely head to Disney+ sometime in 2025.

How to stream Moana 2 for free

Currently, there is no way to stream Moana 2 for free, but it will likely arrive on Disney+ at some point in 2025.

Will Moana 2 be available to rent or buy?

Most certainly yes! In addition to buying or renting Moana 2 on VOD, the movie will be available on Blu-ray and DVD. Though no formal announcement has been made, the physical copies of the film will likely include behind-the-scenes footage and other special features.

Almost certainly. Moana 2 is a Disney film that was originally meant to be a Disney+ series. With very few exceptions, Disney movies head to Disney+ to stream, so we’ll likely see Moana 2 arrive on the platform sometime in early 2025.

Most likely not. Moana 2 is a Disney film, so it will probably head to Disney+ rather than Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.

Since Moana 2 is a Disney movie, it’s most likely to only stream on Disney+ and won’t initially appear on Netflix.
