Each new Magic: The Gathering set also means a handful of classic cards, reprinted with new visuals to match the rest of the expansion. For Spider-Man, that means old favorites like Ponder and Parallel Lives with original comic book illustrations, while Edge of Eternities brought us the Sliver Overlord with a new treatment inspired by ’60s pulp paperback cover art. Magic‘s upcoming set, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is no exception, and this time, we’re getting a reprint of one of the game’s most popular cards (especially in the popular Commander format). That’s right folks, it’s Doubling Season.
Revealed during a panel at New York Comic Con, the TMNT set features a handful of old cards with original art from the original Turtle comics. Among the batch is Doubling Season, a green enchantment that doubles any tokens or counters you create. This is an extremely powerful ability, since some of the most popular Commander strategies involve beefing up your creatures with +1/+1 counters or creating an army of small critters in the form of tokens that can overwhelm your enemies. (Even the TMNT set’s sole pre-constructed Commander deck is built around +1/+1 counters.)
If you’re currently trying to buy a copy of Doubling Season on the second-hand market, you’ll probably wind up spending around $30 (depending on the art, card condition, and seller). This radical new version will appear in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles packs (both the Play Booster and Collector Booster variants). Of course, buying a bunch of packs and hoping for a specific card is typically a recipe for disappointment, but hey, it could happen. At the very least, maybe this new reprint will drive down the overall price of the card.
Either way, you’ll be able to get your hands on this new Doubling Season and the rest of Magic’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cards when the expansion is released on March 6, 2026.
