A Toronto bar that was a go-to for many has officially closed its doors for good, leaving its many fans in the dark.
There’s something innately appealing about a dive bar. Maybe it’s the dim lighting, the playlists that (most of the time) hit the mark, or the affordable drinks, a luxury that, in Toronto at least, is becoming increasingly difficult to come by.
More likely, though, it’s the community atmosphere at such establishments that really seals the deal. I mean, where else can you have such a close relationship with your bartender that you can reach over the bar to fill up your own glass from the taps and only get in a little bit of trouble?
When it comes to dive bars in Toronto, Dundas Video was among the best of them.
A certifiable stalwart on — you guessed it — Dundas West, the bar solidified itself as the ultimate watering hole for neighbourhood residents and visiting revellers alike.
The bar was particularly beloved for its thematic focus on nostalgia, fittingly boasting an expansive collection of VHS tapes, video games that could be played on consoles in the bar and retro regalia.
For years, Dundas Video prevailed as the neighbourhood’s consummate watering hole, which made it all the more shocking when the bar closed its doors for good, seemingly without warning.
In December of 2024, the bar quietly closed its doors for good, offering nothing by way of an announcement or explanation as to why, instead opting to quietly pull out of the neighbourhood for good.
As quickly as the bar closed down, a new resident has already moved in and opened up — but it’s not all bad news.
The new kid in town goes by the name of The Fox & Falcon, a pub and wing restaurant that officially opened its doors in late January 2025.
While the space seems to have been scrubbed of any last remaining whisper of Dundas Video’s kitschy charm, a pub and sports bar seem to also fit the space quite nicely, and, hey, if you’re looking for that good-old community, just choose a sports team to cheer for and head on over.
Dundas Video was formerly located at 831 Dundas West.
