Like Nancy Sinatra, and her legendary father, Frank, Boone has had a number of pop hits over his career, including such chart-toppers as “Ain’t That a Shame,” “I Almost Lost My Mind,” Don’t Forbid Me” and others.

Despite his success, Boone is a controversial figure in the history of pop music, since his toned-down versions of R&B hits often surpassed the originals, such as the case with Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti” and “Long Tall Sally.” Boone was accused of stealing the spotlight from Black artists, who at the time, couldn’t get airplay on radio stations that catered to white audiences.

Boone is also known for dozens of movie roles, including Bernardine, April Love (both in 1957)and Journey to the Center of the Earh (1959).

“You both lived in NJ,” another fan added, noting their connection to New Jersey. Sinatra was born in Jersey City and her family later lived in Hasbrouck Heights before they moved to California. Boone lived in Leonia and Teaneck in the late 1950s and his daughter, Debby Boone, was born in Hackensack.
