Nelly Furtado issued a cheeky response to online body-shaming criticism during a recent concert.
On Aug. 24, the “I’m Like a Bird” singer, 46, performed at Manchester Pride in England, during which she sent a bold message through fashion.

At the show, she rocked a white T-shirt with the body of a woman on it. This resulted in an optical illusion that made it seem like it was her physique. The fake body donned a white crop top with a bra poking out of the top and a low-rise pair of jeans. Additionally, the body on the shirt wore a belt with a large buckle reading, “Whoa Nelly.”
Furtado paired the shirt with neon pink, fingerless gloves, black fishnet tights under black shorts and a pair of knee-high turquoise boots, accessorizing with large, statement rectangular earrings and a matching choker necklace. She wore her hair in a long, braided ponytail and rocked a full face of glamorous makeup.
In January, Furtado posted a body-positive message alongside a photo of herself rocking an orange bikini.
“HAVE A BODY NEUTRAL 2025, 😉, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, LOVE WITH EVERY INCH OF YOUR HEART ♥️THANKS FOR ALL THE MEMORIES THIS YEAR 🙏🏼,” she began her Instagram update.
“This year I became aware of the aesthetic pressure of my work in a brand new way, while simultaneously I experienced new levels of self-love and genuine confidence from within,” she continued, adding that she has “never had any face or body surgeries or augmentation, besides for veneers on the top row of my teeth, quite recently.”
To conclude her post, Furtado wrote, “My New Year’s message for 2025, is express yourself freely, celebrate your individuality and know that it’s perfectly OK to be OK with what you see in the mirror, and it’s also OK to want something different. We are all cute little humans just bouncing around the earth looking for hugs.”
Although many of the replies were supportive and grateful for Furtado’s transparency, others sent body-shaming responses.
One Instagram user wrote, “Yep; but what about health risks connected to overweight? It’s not just about how you look, but about your overall condition. We should all pay attention to that.”
Another shared, “How on earth could this happen??? Jesus Christ 😮.”
“Sweetie you used to be so thin and pretty. Get on ozempic or go on a diet,” someone else wrote, as yet another commented, “Well, I liked the old physique a lot more ! 😅.”
One supporter, meanwhile, declared, “You are absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for opening up and your honesty. Very refreshing.”
Another fan shared, “You are stunning. Beautiful body. Thank you for celebrating a proper healthy weight. 😍❤️🔥”
Yet another exclaimed, “Nelly Furtado out here making me feel better about my body. I love the way she looks. It’s perfect! It’s real, it’s from hard work, and I love it!”
