Canadian singer Nelly Furtado just announced that she’s performing a show at The Great Hall in Toronto on Friday, and best of all— it’s free!
“This one’s special,” the singer, who is based in Toronto, wrote in an Instagram post on Friday afternoon. “@amazonmusic’s first city session in Toronto? I’m honoured. Join me as I perform live tonight at 9pm EST on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel ✨ if you’re in the city and you’re stopping by The Great Hall, drop a 7 💿✨”
The announcement has fans rushing to make it to The Great Hall this evening for an intimate performance with Furtado!
“Can’t wait for this! 7 live” one fan gushed, while another stated, “[W]hat a beautiful place! I’ll meet you later, queen! [A]nd don’t forget that you are the pop queen of the millennium! [R]epresenting our generation ❤️ 🙏 [S]ending you lots of positive energy Nellynha!”
Many commented on how Furtado has been an icon to them for most of their lives: “I can’t wait to check this out 😍 you are my music since [I was] 10!”
Furtado has had an incredible year since her 2023 comeback, and there’s plenty more to come. Last week, she released her first album in seven years (dutifully called 7) with her 21-year-old daughter, Nevis (who was born two months before Furtado’s second album, Folklore, came out in 2003).
In an Instagram post, the pop sensation said she had made 400-500 pieces of music in four years.
“My ADHD doesn’t always allow for me to organize creations in a methodical way so it’s hard to explain how we have chosen 14 songs that magically rose to the top of the heap. Phew – they come together just by nature of being in the same collection, 7, kind of like random seashells that may be similar but not at all alike,” Furtado wrote. “So this album can’t be listened to like audio wallpaper, or maybe it can depending on how you like to enjoy music but I don’t even care if you skip songs, it’s up to you how to enjoy it. I really mean that. My only intention was to provide some portals to trip out and release and escape.”
As if she’s not busy enough, on Saturday, Furtado will induct Sarah McLachlan at the 2024 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Massey Hall in Toronto. The singer has also been named as one of three headliners for the opening ceremony of the upcoming Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., in February 2025 — she’ll share the stage with alt-pop star Roxane Bruneau, who hails from Quebec, and American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan.
