Bloober Team — the studio behind 2024’s Silent Hill 2 remake, Cronos: The New Dawn, and the in-progress Silent Hill remake — is working on a new project. After a teaser featuring a red rose appeared last week, fans began speculating that the upcoming title could be a remake of Punchline’s 2006 psychological horror game, Rule of Rose. The game has earned a bit of a cult following over the years, and given how well Bloober has handled the Silent Hill franchise, it’s not exactly a stretch to suspect the studio may have another remake of a beloved Japanese horror title in the pipeline.
Unfortunately for Rule of Rose fans, that is not the case. Details on Bloober’s new project are still sparse, but over the weekend, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno confirmed that the project is not a remake.
“Nice guess, but no,” Babieno said on LinkedIn (via FRVR). “It definitely doesn’t refer to any remake.”
The teaser (which can be seen at the curiously named remosdneulserorehsoovamceyerd.com) features an image of a red rose that drips blood when interacted with, along with the text, “Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait.”
Between the rose and the text is a small “play” button. When clicked, a distorted male voice can be heard speaking, occasionally interrupted by static.
“Thou art sick. … Invisible … flies at night. Howling storm … Has found out … Thy bed of crimson joy … Dark secret …Thy life destroyed.”
At the bottom of the page is a timer that appears to be counting down to Valentine’s Day, which is presumably when players will get a better look at whatever Bloober is hiding up its sleeve. The rose imagery likely has something to do with the planned Valentine’s Day reveal, but given how similar it looks to the stylized rose design on Rule of Rose’s box art, it’s not hard to see why fans assumed it was a reference to the 2006 game.
Whatever Bloober’s working on, it’s not a remake, but it definitely looks scary.
