If you don’t know exactly where Leslie Lookout Park is located, you might miss it. It’s behind dark fencing, crammed on a slender slice of real estate between industrial aggregate operations at the end of Leslie Street just before the Leslie Street Spit and Tommy Thompson Park. The best way to find it is to search for the lookout tower piercing the blue sky.

Once there, chances are visitors will be very few, since this park just opened and it isn’t exactly suntanning season. But the sand is perfect, the chairs are absolutely comfortable and the location is idyllic for an afternoon of relaxation or work. As long as you can tolerate the noise from, well, basically dump trucks. So many dump trucks.

As the late afternoon sun casts a golden hue over Leslie Lookout Park, the new addition to Toronto’s Port Lands emerges as a breathtaking escape.

Officially opened on Sept. 14, this park offers a stunning vantage point overlooking the Ship Channel and the Toronto skyline. With its meticulously designed landscape and thoughtful amenities, Leslie Lookout Park is a refreshing sanctuary that invites visitors to pause and revel in its beauty.

There are two entry points, pathways that invite pedestrians and cyclists in, with a large number of bicycle locking posts on either side of the park, in addition to a bicycle repair stand. This, a nod to the number of cyclists who come along this stretch of the city to tackle the spit.

The park’s best features include a Miyawaki-inspired mini-forest, a towering lookout, and an inviting sandy beach, provide a perfect backdrop for unwinding as the sun begins to set.

As you settle into one of the Muskoka-style chairs, you’re greeted by the tranquil sound of water lapping against the shore and the sight of migratory birds gliding overhead. The absence of crowds only enhances the experience, making it feel like a private retreat.

Leslie Lookout Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and urban charm that is unlikely to become hugely popular thanks to the ongoing aggregate operations, but is a great stopover a snack or lunch before or after visiting Tommy Thompson Park.
